OLD NEW HAVEN MARINE CAR NAUTICAL BRASS 8 DAY CLOCK 2nd HAND NR! This is a well loved and used daily in a work shop from the 1952 or so till the early 1970's. The care taker at the summer camp in Highgate Springs, VT. Frank Martin actually broke a hole in the crystal so he would not have to spin off the cover. The lacquered brass finish is worn in places, although it is solid brass and could be made to shine. The original key is missing. It measures approx 5”dia. at its base, and the crystal 2 5/8” dia. It is approx. 3” high standing on a table surface. Has brass mounting screw, and seconds dial, very classy vintage clock. This did keep time when I acquired it 25 years ago, now I do not have a key so I do not have a safe way to see if it stills tickS. What you see is what you get, thanks for looking. This is a BEAUTIFUL example of a Seth Thomas Mantle Clock Tambour No 18 in wonderful 100% ALL ORIGINAL condition. Also this is a rare size for a Seth Thomas Mantle Clock. It is much higher quality than almost all. Has the rare round movement No. 120 and our favorite high quality gong. Resonates for several seconds. This is truly a great clock. It is a very classy mantle clock in need of a warm loving home. It was made circa1921 and is listed in the book SETH THOMAS CLOCKS AND MOVEMENTS Third edition - Volume 2 by Tran Duy Ly on page 701. It has the signed HEAVY DUTY HIGH QUALITY VERY CLEAN "Seth Thomas Clock Co" 8-day time and strike movement which chimes on the half hour and strikes the hour with a very beautiful sound on a cathedral gong – it resonates for about 10 seconds and sounds like “Big Ben” to me. It is a very strong runner! The Seth Thomas Clock Company was started in 1820 and has been known for making high quality clocks. With this clock being no exception. The movement runs very well and keeps good time. The movement was just cleaned, oiled, pivots polished and bushings added where needed. This clock will not need servicing for many years to come, and is ready for the next 100 years! This is a labor intensive service, with many clockmakers charging 250.00 and up. We recommend having it oiled every 2 to 3 years to keep it in tip-top shape! With the purchase of this clock for an additional $ 2.25 we will include an oiler kit with a professional oiler loaded with enough oil to oil approximately 50 clocks with easy instructions so you could even do it yourself! The case is also very beautiful and near perfect with its original finish! It is in beautiful/perfect condition. No dings, holes, scratches, etc. I doubt if the clock has been worked on much as the screws and screw holes for the movement are tight, with no additional screw holes. (sorry for the finger marks on the back door…) The silver dial is all original and in SUPERIOR condition. It is very crisp and easy to read. It has an adjustment for fast and slow on the dial which can be turned by the small end of the large key, this way you don’t need to take the clock down from its shelf to adjust it for slow and fast. The metal around the dial (solid brass) is original and is aged to a very beautiful patina (no extra screw holes – no dents etc.) WITH THE ORIGINAL HEAVY BEVEL GLASS. The hands are original (see picture). The back door is original and perfect – fits correctly and the snap works well. Retains its original paper label on the back of the door with lots of instructions. Still has its original feet. The movement is signed. Complete with the original old and heavy (make the timekeeping very accurate) Seth Thomas pendulum – quite rare for sure! And a new double ended key – one end for winding the clock and one end for adjusting the time for slow and fast! QUITE RARE FOR A CLOCK TO HAVE ITS ORIGINAL PENDULUM. This clock runs really great! The original front glass! The clock measures 7 ¼ inches high, 6 inches deep, and 13 3/16 inches wide. These antique clocks amaze me - could you imagine any other consumer product still working nearly 90 years! And the truly amazing thing with proper care they will work easily past the next 100 years, with this clock going well beyond that! This Auction is for an Antique Seth Thomas No.60 8 day Tambour Style Westminster Chime Mantle Clock. Being offered in as found original condition. Beautiful Mahogany Case with Walnut accents on front. The case has very nice highlights and shows some patina.There is a small 1/4" chip in the inlaid wood on right. And a couple of small nicks on edge. The case has not been altered and is in great condition considering its age. The original 124 movement has been recently cleaned and oiled with clock lubricant and strikes the westminster chimes on 5 tuned S.T. Chime rods 4 notes on the 1/4 hr, 8 on the 1/2 hr, 12 on the 3/4 hr and 16 on the hr followed by a fifth hammer counting out the amount of hours. The silvered dial is covered with a brass bezel with convex glass.The dial is in fair condition with some minimal wear and a stain around the number five.The bezel closes tightly as does the door on back of case. The brass bezel has some nice patina wich adds to the beauty of this clock.The clock face has not been cleaned or altered in anyway and if you wish should clean up nice. Original label on back door This a clean nice original and fully functional fine antique clock wich would make a fine addition to any home,office, or den. Original Winding Key is included.
