RARE Franklin-Morse Calendar Parlor Clock--RARE Here is the first Franklin-Morse Calendar Clock that I have ever seen, much less owned. I just purchased a large collection of highly collectable clocks and over the next few weeks will be listing some of the over 200 pieces. This Franklin-Morse stands 23 x 16 1/8 inches, and it has a 5" calendar roman numeral dial. It is a walnut case with lots of nice carvings on it, and it has a calendar dial around the outer perimeter of the dial. In addition, it has a slot just under the center post where the month is indicated. As noted in the 'Survey of American Clocks' on calendar clocks, page 150 states that Benjamin Franklin of Chicago, Illiinois, was issued a patent # 279,143 on June 12, 1883, with half interest to Francis E. Morse of Chicago, for a perpetual mechanism which could be attached to an existing clock with no modifications, except cutting a hole in the dial. The clock cases and movements were manufactured by E.N. Welch Co. It shows several pictures of this model clock, the only style ever produced by them. There is also a close up picture of the calendar movement like this one. Their model had two labels on the back as this one does, with Francis E. Morse's name on it. It also has the famous Geneve Stops on the front of the movement to prevent overwinding. Our clock is signed by the E.N. Welch Company, and it has the famous sandwich glass pendulum, but the drawback of it is the small hairline crack in the glass. It is an eight day movement with hour strike, month calendar, and day of the month. If you are a collector of calendar clocks, or of rare american clocks, then this one should be for you. My reference is from the price guide of 1975 in oak and it was priced at $575. I am not sure of the value today, 35 years later, but know it is a very rare clock. I am selling it with no reserve, and shipping charges of $35 within the Continental USA. If you have any questions on this very rare calendar clock, then please email me. As noted, I have a large collection of different and unusual early clocks I will be listing in the near future, so stay tuned for some nice pieces. Good luck on the bidding on this nice clock. (1p9) Key Included Any winding clock we sell includes the key! Inquiries welcome! We'd love to answer any questions you may have before bidding! Please ask your questions before bidding, not after it has ended, because then the item is sold. I am available every day to respond to questions, so be sure to ask. Your privacy is very important to you, and ProClocks will support you completely. It's Ticking! Unless otherwise specified in the listing, all clocks we sell are complete and are ticking and striking (if applicable).
